Did Jesus Really Die on the Cross?

The BIBLE clearly teaches that Jesus did indeed die on the cross, and after three days he rose again from the dead and reappeared to his followers. After spending 40 days with them, he ascended into heaven again.
Jesus was not only a great teacher and miracle worker. He came with a purpose. When the prophet John-the-Baptist (Yahiya) saw Jesus, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!(John 1:29)

Jesus also said, “The Son of Man (Jesus) did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
 And also:

“He (Jesus) then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.” (Mark 8:31)
Jesus was not killed, but GAVE his life up to save us. It was always a part of his plan.
The reason the Jews arrested Jesus and sentenced him to death was because of Jesus’ teachings.

Take a look at this passage: (Jesus said) “I and the Father are one.”Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.” (John 10:30-33)

The Jews arrested Jesus and wanted to kill him because of the many times he claimed to be God. This is why the Jews turned Jesus over to the Romans for them to crucify him. But again… They didn’t kill Jesus. Jesus chose to be crucified in order to save us. When he was arrested, this is what happened:

…The men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. (Matt 26:50-51) Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him. (Luke 22:51) “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” (Matt 26:52-54)
Jesus, in order to fulfill scripture, laid down his life for us. Before his crucifixion, he told his followers, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

On the cross, just before Jesus died, he said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30)  Jesus said “It is finished,” because his work was now done. And he “gave up his spirit” because again, NO ONE could kill him. He gave up his own life.

At the moment of his death, the Bible says:

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:51-54)

The Temple had a thick curtain separating the holiest place from the people. When the curtain tore, God was declaring that the separation between man and God was now over! The earth shook and amazing things happened at the death of Jesus because it was such a horrifying thing for creation to witness!

Jesus NEEDED to die on the cross in order to fulfill prophecy and save the world of their sins.

But his death was not the end. After three days he rose to life again as he said he would in order to show us that he has defeated death. After his resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days with his disciples and taught them many more things. Then he ascended into heaven to prepare a place for everyone who believes in him.
