Do Christians believe in 3 Gods?
Christians do not believe that there are three gods. Some people are mistaken and claim that Christians worship the Father, Mary, and Jesus as three gods, but this is not true. The Bible teaches that there is only one God. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)
“You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (James 2:19)
“Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.” (Isaiah 43:10)
The reason people do not understand what Christians believe is that we worship a God who is different from all of creation! The God of the Bible has revealed Himself to us in three equal but distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are all one and all unique, but they are not separated from each other. The Father is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and Jesus is God. We cannot separate them from one another; they are all united as one.
Here is an example that can help you understand: Let’s think of an egg, for instance, which has a shell, egg white, and yolk. None of these three parts alone is the whole egg 100%. They all need to be together to constitute an egg, but each part has its own specific function. This illustrative example can help you grasp the essential idea, but remember: nothing in all creation is like God.
This concept may be a bit difficult to grasp at first, but as you read the Bible, you will see how God reveals Himself to us through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
